works well for allergies4
It helps out allergy sufferers. A little noisy on high, but softer on low.

Great air purifier for the price4
Pros:
-size, very compact
-can be placed horizontally or vertically to save space
-does a very good job of removing particles from the air
-ionizer removes odors
-price, try to find an air purifier/ionizer for under $40

Cons:
-fully effective for rooms 110 square feet or smaller
-noise level (at low it is slightly noticable, on medium you have to turn up the tv a few notches, on high it sounds like a fan or air conditioner on full blast)

For the price, it does a terrific job in smaller rooms with the only drawback being the noise (which on low is very bearable). I leave it on high all day while I'm at work, switch to medium in the evening and low at night and it does the trick.

Super Value!Super Product!5
I purchased two of these little units and I must say they are definately a bargain at this price. Most importantly though they really do the job.You can check the black liner a few days later and you will be amazed how much this little purifier sucks out of the air.I live in Ny and my home gets plenty dusty no matter how much I clean. This has helped my family breath easier.I am going to purchas a third on now,so I thought I would just share my experience while here.P.S. filters only need to be bought every six months thats a pro...cons only one...can be a little noisy if you are used to having complete silence in your home....to me the clean air is worth it!

Customer Reviews

Works great, but noisy. Best for its price4
I bought two units of this model around New Year. One for the bedroom (16 x 16) and one for the living room 19 x 20). My husband and I both love it. It is really noisy when you set the fan to high (level 3). So, we set the fan to low while we are in the house, and set it back to high before we leave the house for work (but mostly we forgot). It is still working great on the low fan! I used to cough a lot between Winter and Spring, we have been using these air purifiers for months now and I have not cough since. I will highly recommend this.

Moves a lot of air, but noisy4
I got this air purifier for my wife at Christmas, and she loves it. It moves a huge amount of air, and has helped her very much with her allergies. But I can hardly stand to be in the same room with it, as it is very noisy. One supposes these are compromises that might have to be made. Fortunately, we've agreed on a placement for it nowhere close to our TV or stereo system.

Lifesaver (or at least marriage saver)5
My wife loves her cats (multiple), and her dogs (also multiple); she mostly tolerates the kids and me. This winter my allergies were reaching critical mass. My wife gave me this Air Purifier for our room, as a Christmas present, and it has been amazing. One side note, the device puts out a good deal of white noise, personally, I like that, as it helps me sleep, others might find it annoying. My next step is to get them for every other room.
I highly recommend this product.

Update...
This unit worked fine for about a year, then it just died.
While it was worth the cost for the service it did provide, I was a bit disappointed in the durability.

Customer Reviews

Not a HEPA filter4
The description says HEPA filter, but the box said HEPA-type filter. I am not sure what this will mean for the life of the filter, as I have vaccumed it several times and it still looks dirty. However there seems to be less dust in the room and my son says he has less allergy issues at night, so - so far so good.

I origninally rated this 4 stars, but would downgrade to 2 stars.
I have owned this for almost a year now, the fan now makes an annoying rattling sound that lessens somewhat on the high setting. The 'clean filter' light has come on and stayed on even though I vacuum it weekly. For what I paid I am disappointed in the performance.

Good filter for the price4
One thing I learned about filters is that you definitely get what you pay for. When you drop big coin on a pricey, hospital quality filter you can expect perfection in performance and air quality. When you spend $75-$125 like I did on this air filter then you get what you pay for. This medium room purifier with "HEPA Type" filters is said to be about 95% effective at removing air born allergens. The two HEPA type filters are permanent along with the secondary outer carbon filter for bigger air particles. The ionizer is also fairly effective at changing the overall smell of the room. If you choose not to have the ion smell you can simply ignore the button that turns that feature on. I've owned this filter for about 3 months now and it will occasionally buzz a little at high speeds. However, with mine it is easily fixed by tapping the top or by adjusting the tightness of the back plate. Low and medium speeds are pretty quite though. It has great dimensions as well making it possible to easily fit in to any small room without making the place look cluttered.

For the money I feel like I got everything I paid for. I gave 4 stars because of the occasional soft buzzing noise and the fact that the purifier is designed in such a way that it does not push as much air through as it could. Aside from those minor complaints, this filter is the way to go if you're looking for a cheap and effective solution to cleaner air.

*UPDATE - After about 6 months of using this thing all night almost nightly, it still works very well. I've only had to clean off the outer dust filter once or twice. I have noticed one thing that I found particularly annoying and that is that this filter emits some sort of magnetic field when turned on. I know it sounds like a stupid complaint, but when you have a smaller room and the only place you can put this is next to your television you'll see why that's bad thing. Lots of screen discoloration from the magnetic field, I'm just happy it wasn't there long enough to do permanent damage. However I'm not sure an LCD or plasma tv would be affected by this.

Early opinion of Honeywell HHT-081 air purifier5
Let me begin by saying that I purchased this air purifier for my mom who, (like myself) suffers from horrible allergies. Dust, moisture, etc - it virtually all sends her into a sneezing fit. Congestion, stuffy nose, and other annoyances frequent her days.

So anything to give some relief is a God-sent. However, I found myself extremely skeptical as to the actual effectiveness of these "air filtration devices". That is - until I spoke to my uncle who owns this same model. He said that it really helped to remove the dusty, musty smell from his living room.

This was a gift for her for Christmas 2008, but I had considered one of these last year.

I helped her set it up today, and here are the (admittedly) early findings.

Pros;
1) VERY easy to set up out of the box. Just take it out of the box, remove plastic bag from machine, and open the plastic bags containing the filter cartridges, and place them back into the machine. Then just plug it in and turn it on. It's really that simple.
2) 2) Price - If you have done your shopping/research on these machines, you know that you can pay hundreds, and even thousands for an air purifier. For what I paid on Amazon - I feel like I got a deal, plus free shipping.
3) Filters for this machine are REUSABLE. This means that the device SHOULD be less expensive to use over time.
4) Air flow - An air purifier is obviously a fan (or series of small fans) which pull air through a filtration system that removes smells, dust, and hopefully allergens as advertised. So it is obviously a plus for the device to circulate a large volume of the air in a given area. This one does move A LOT of air.
5) Relatively quiet when in use. (though a bit loud on High)
6) Size - Many of the medium-room air purifiers that I looked at had a large foot print. But this one does not take up a lot of floor space, (about a square foot).

Cons;
1) Slightly noisy (especially on high)
2) Cool air - As I stated earlier, this device obviously has a fan to move the air through the filters. The air that it blows back into the room feels quite a bit cooler than the room temperature. This is primarily a cool weather annoyance.

Overall - I would have to recommend this device quite highly based on early impressions. The price is good for the volume of air which it seems to move through the filters.

One note of caution before buying; If you want an air purifier for your bedroom - I would suggest that this unit may be a bit noisy unless you like ambient (fan type) noises while sleeping. I would suggest this model for living rooms, dining rooms, and other day-use areas.

Amazon.com Review
To rid a room of unhealthy or irritating airborne particles such as dust, smoke, and mold, an air purifier can be indispensable. Manufacturer of a wide assortment of air treatment products, Honeywell combines HEPA and IFD (intense field dielectric) filtration methods in this germicidal electronic tower for effective cleansing. Energy-Star certified, the 60-watt purifier removes up to 99.97 percent of a room's air impurities for better breathing.

The air purifier best suits rooms 200 square feet in size. The user selects from the three operation speeds for purification or takes advantage of the 12-hour programmable timer. Air circulates silently through the machine up to four times an hour without any disruption to the room's natural air flow. The purifier traps impurities via filtration and ionization, releasing clean air into the room. While the IFD filter never need be replaced, the purifier illuminates an indicator light when cleaning is necessary. Users clean the filter by rinsing half a dozen times a year or they might choose to vacuum the IFD filter to clear debris. As with all electric appliances, read all information prior to using the purifier. The air purifier measures 19.37 by 15.39 by 14.21 inches and weighs 12.9 pounds. --Jessica Reuling

Power Consumption4
Just thought this information would be useful to others. I run mine 24/7, so I measured the power consumption and calculated how much it costs to run a month. My electricity cost is 11 cents per kWh

Running on High 24/7 - 44kWh a month. $4.84 a month
Running on Med 24/7 - 27kWh a month. $2.97 a month
Running on Low 24/7 - 21kWh a month. $2.31 a month

Works as advertised5
I got this filter because my wife is allergic to our cat. We've tried the top of the line Sharper Image filter costing more than twice as much for 2 years that did just about nothing but did it quietly. This filter is noisy except on the low setting but even at the low setting, it keeps the air clean, a fresher smell than the rest of the house. Both my wife and I noticed the results immediately. We wake up with our sinuses clear, something we haven't felt in a long time. Because of this I order 2 of the smaller ones for other parts of the house, can't wait to put those in use.

bigger than i thought, better than i expected4
We bought this machine because we have a cat and my boyfriend is allergic to cats. Our place is small-medium sized apartment in a highrise so this machine is kinda perfect for us. THough we have 2 main rooms, living and bedroom. it works great in both rooms but once in a while we have to move the machine from room to room, but maybe also because of the floor plan layout of the apartment.
This thing is big!..like about almost 3' tall i think. My boyfriend's allergies now got much better than before we bought it, he said. its easy to operate and move around ( theres a grip handle on top so you can grap, lift and move it around.)The filter is easy to clean-vacuum cleaning, it seems as though the filter cleaning time indicator button doesnt work.. but its easy to check, just pull the filter up and look.
Overall, I think this product is a 4. Not bad, works great for the price, but if you can pay more than $150, I believe there s a more expensive but better one out there.

Excellent5
This is an excellent air purifier. It can also be used as a fan, which I use it to sleep at night. It is very quiet except on high setting. But what fan isn't noisy on the high setting? I cleaned the filter by running water through it under the sink. It had a collected a nice bit of dust that would have otherwise entered my lungs.

Customer Reviews

Expensive but effective5
I am allergic to cats, so naturally I adopted two and I'm about to get a third. I was STRUGGLING with my allergies so started looking into air purifiers and found that Honeywell consistently had good reviews. This was a very new model at the time I purchased and I was a bit nervous about being a guinea pig but my allergies clicked the purchase button for me.

I had to return the first unit because it started making a strange cyclic humming sound, kind of like the motor was getting tired - I'd only had it for about two weeks. Amazon Return Center is amazing and I had a replacement unit in two days. The second unit is great, I've had no problems so far. It's whisper-quiet (unless you crank it up to its highest setting, which isn't necessary) and I really notice a difference in the quality of the air. If I turn it off, I start getting the sniffles and itchy eyes in no time. I don't use the UV feature, but I do like the ionizer.

***UPDATE*** Unfortunately I've also had to arrange for the second unit to be returned, this time I contacted Honeywell directly. The purifier has been getting progressively more noisy and it sounds like the motor is straining. I'm really surprised because I have a couple of cheaper Honeywell units that have been on 24/7 for almost the last year and I have had absolutely no problems with them. I just don't think this unit is ready for the market yet. Honeywell customer service has been excellent, they were responsive and are going to exchange the purifier for one of their higher models at no charge. I think I might try the Rabbit Air purifier if the next unit I receive is not satisfactory. SIGH!

Works well but filters hard to find4
This air purifier does a great job and has a very modern look. I also like that it provides hepa, ion and traditional filtration all in one unit. You have a choice of using the included washable filter or a replaceable odor blocking filter. I find that the odor blocking filter is the way to go, but ordering additional filters is a real pain. There is a web site and part number on the filter bag but it only comes up with "search not found." I have not found these filters available anywhere but from the manufacturer and since their web site doesn't work, be prepared to sit on the phone placing your order.

Not bad, not perfect4
I am searching for an air purifier to take care of dust and germs. I had a sharper image pro gp and tried this one to replace it. The features are great and it does circulate the air well, the only downside for me personally is that at the lowest setting, you can still hear the fan. Some people don't mind or like the noise but I personally like machines you cannot hear. That's my only downside.

Sold Product4
Honeywell has always put out good products. The HFD-010 exceeded my expectations and makes for a good size air purifier for any room. It is not the biggest unit, and it does not have a lot of features for various control (just two speeds). On high speed, it took in a lot of air. Works well for hallways, bathrooms, and for kitchens, especially if you have pets or cooking smells that linger throughout the house. I also like the idea of it having a permanent filter.

I recommend this product. But if you want more options for speeds, you might want a bigger unit.

Honeywell HFD-010 QuietClean Compact Tower Air Purifier with Permanent Filter5
We have two dogs in the house and this unit cleans the air in a 1200 sq. ft. house and the house is free of dog or other odors

Cleaner air5
I bought this because I have a cat with asthma (yes, I said a cat with asthma). My vet recommended I get an air purifier for her to cut down on her attacks. My kitty is just a doll and I'll do anything for her. She loves to sit in front of this because I think it helps her breathe. So far she seems to have less attacks in the bedroom where this is so I'll be getting the bigger one for the living room. My bedroom is small - 10x11' so I think this is a good size for a small room. I also like that it doesn't put out that funny smell some of the more expensive air purifiers do. I recommend it - I just wish it was a tad cheaper.

Customer Reviews

Pre-Filter Fits All Honeywell HEPA Air Cleaners5
I follow the manufacturer's recommendation to change the pre-filter every 3 months on all my Honeywell Air Cleaners with HEPA filters. These replacement filters come boxed in a set of two. The pre-filter simply wraps around the round HEPA filter, which is inside the unit, and attaches to itself by means of two velcro fasteners. It takes less than five minutes to change the pre-filter. In between changes, I vacuum my pre-filters to remove accumulated dust and pet hair from them. These pre-filters do help to remove some odors from rooms, especially if you are able to keep the space enclosed where you have the air cleaner running.

Be sure to keep a box or two of these pre-filters on hand in case they become back ordered. The HEPA filter needs to be changed in 1-3 years, depending on conditions where it is located.

Universal Pre-Filter5
This filter is larger (taller) than it needs to be for most machines. You simply trim the filter (and it's got pre-made perforations) to the height of your machine. And yes, this means that if you have one of the smaller machines, one which is less than half the height of the pre-filter, you might get two pre-filters for the price of one. Bonus.

Good price, quality product...5
I'd recommend getting the Honeywell version over the cheaper imitations, so as such, this receives my highest rating. It comes with good installation instructions, and getting it out of the box and onto your Hepa filter is a breeze, so if you're in the market for one of these suckers (which if you're like me, means you're in the market every 3 months), then grab it, it's cheap and you can count on the quality since it's made by Honeywell.

Designed to purify air in small and medium-size rooms up to 186 square feet, the Honeywell Tower air purifier offers two-stage cleaning for healthier lungs and tidier rooms. The permanent, washable pre-filter catches larger particles that'd otherwise clog the IFD filter for persistent small-particle filtering and cleaner air. Best of all, the pre-filter never needs to be replaced for easy, cost-free maintenance. The purifier's IFD filter removes 99.97 percent of all airborne particles that pass through, such as pollen, cat dander, household dust, tobacco smoke, and mold spores. No more dust particles in that glint of sunlight, this Honeywell is equipped with a built-in ionizer that grounds airborne dust for quick vacuum cleanup. An electronic filter-check indicator shows when it's time to clean the pre-filter. Plus, an LED touch-button control offers three fan speeds for fast filtering and whisper-quiet air purifying.

So far, so good -- and the oscillating is the best!4
I decided to get this air cleaner after trying the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze and a larger Honeywell HEPA filter. At the time of purchase, the Sharper Image was the only one with a permanent filter. This was a big plus for me seeing as the older HEPA cleaners have 2 filters to replace, the larger one being nearly the price of the machine. This Honeywell tower has a permanent filter.

There are many claims for and against the Ionic Breeze. I'm still undecided on how effective it is -- but I feel almost the same way about my large HEPA filter. I found myself running both of them to control my allergies. Although I cleaned them regularly and found dust on both, I can't say the air was particularly different. However, shortly after turning this on in the bedroom for the first time, I could smell a difference. I haven't had it long enough to say it's made a real dent in my allergies -- plus the fact that my allergies are intermittant -- but I'm pleased that I even notice it.

One thing to note -- the Amazon description says there is an independently controlled Ionizer. I assumed that meant I could control it independently of the HEPA Unit. If that's the case, I have yet to see how. It's not mentioned anywhere in the tiny booklet and there are no buttons for it. For that reason, I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5. I did want to control the ionizer separately because I wanted to be able shut that off entirely. There are camps on both sides arguing for an against ionizers, and some claim they make breathing worse -- so being able to compare with and without it was something I wanted to try. If anyone else knows how to do it, then post it here. :)

Compared to the larger Honeywell that I own, this one is much more quiet on each of its three settings. When I first read the description I didn't pay attention to the oscillating function. Now, it's my favorite part of this cleaner. The oscillator is the thing that is independent of the cleaner -- and when its on, the machine rotates in place, back and forth, blowing the air in an arc. I like this feature a lot and I think helps with cleaning a larger area. Maybe the ionizer is attached to this feature?

This unit is significantly heavier than the similar looking Ionic Breeze. Also, the manual states it should be placed 3 feet from any wall or furniture. The cord is not that long, and placing the cord behind some furniture to get to an outlet has made it nearly impossible for me to reach a spot a full 3 feet away.

Anyway, so far I am pleased and would recommend this unit to some one who is looking for a compromise between those two types of cleaners.

Its a great buy!5
Its very sturdy and well constructed, it cleans and circulates the air through out my bedroom... The only thing I'm slightly worried about is the strange smell... Maybe I'm just used to breathing dirty moldy air

**Update**
Okay... The strange smell has disappeared after my first day of full use so maybe it has something to do with the purifier being brand new... I highly recommend this product because its very sturdy and the base feels weighted so theres no need to worry about it moving or falling over while it oscillates! I gave my 21 inch box fan to my friend Amanda because this device blows just as much air with hardly any noise at all, its very close to being silent... and the air feels and smells clean which really makes me happy... I mainly purchased this product because I hate vacuming... I really hate vacuming! I'm really hoping this product rids my room of dust and cuts my vacuming down to once a week...

So remember... This machine is very quiet almost silent, It circulates just as much air as my 21 inch box fan, It has a weighted base which keeps it stable as it oscillates, it has washable filters that must be allowed to dry before you re-install them, It has a weird smell its first few hours of use, its energy efficent and has a 5 year warranty on the box...The tower is black and constructed of durable thick plastic and the base is silver... The unit is tall but has a small diameter so it ended up taking up very little area on my night stand near my bed...

You won't regret buying this product from Amazon

Pays for itself in filters5
Confusion in HEPA home filters is starting to rise--I was at a local home improvement shop and they had a whole selection of machines--From True HEPA to "Hepa Type" and this one is supposedly better then "Hepa Type" but not as good as True Hepa. So for those who are allergic to everything, you may be better off with what Honeywell calls a "True Hepa."

For me at least, I'm doing well with this model, and I'm relieved that I no longer have to buy 70 dollar filters for my old Honeywell machine.

Mixed emotions, It works well- but it is VERY LOUD4
This does a good job of cleaning the air. I breath better with it. That is the most important thing, right?

I bought two, *but my wife turns the one in the living room off when she gets up before dawn*. I have to remember to turn it back on. Low or high speed this thing can be heard. Low is not really any quieter, but probably less effective.

This is basically Honeywell's souped up answer to Ionic Breeze. Its noisy because the ionic cleaner is built around a tower fan and a new type of cleanable IFR filter is added. Its a much better value than the Ionic Breeze, Oreck and similar models. I just wish that it was quieter!!!!!

After one month, I saw some dust in the filter and cleaned it. These put out plenty of negative ions, which are great for chasing the blues away and making dust particles fall to the floor for you to vacuum them up. You will see the dust on the flour, rather than breath it into your lungs!

As long as you don't mind WHITE NOISE, this is better deal that oreck or ionic breeze in my opinion. Its half the price and tested to do a better job.

This one has a built in tower fan. A verticle squireel cage, if you will. If they could just make the darn thing less noisy it would be perfect!!!

This thing is amazing!!!!!!!!!5
Let me first say that I was very skeptic about these air purifiers in the first place... I only got one because my cat yes cat, had been sick for about a year with a running nose and eyes, weezing, and just plain sick. The vet bills were getting crazy! I had gotten x-rays and kitty drugs and I felt so bad as she was getting sicker. One day a nice lady at work asked me if anyone smoked in our building (we live in a two-flat). The couple downstairs did. So I bought the Honeywell with the filter that does not need to be replaced and holly cow! I leave it on day and night and in a matter of days kitty is all better! I really am so impressed and the hepa fillter is a must.
The smell in our place is fresh smelling as soon as you walk into the stairwell it smells of smoke. So if your pets are in the house all day spend the $100 bucks and give them some nice fresh air and more comfortable living enviroment.
